What to expect at your first boudoir session

What to expect at your first boudoir session

A step-by-step walk through the studio door, from consultation to delivery.

Before you even book: it's normal to feel nervous

Almost every client who walks through the studio door has never done anything like this before. If you’re feeling a mix of excitement and “what did I sign myself up for,” that’s the most common reaction there is — not a sign you’re not ready.

Boudoir isn’t about looking like a model. It’s about being guided, one pose at a time, by someone whose entire job is to make you look and feel like the best version of yourself. The nerves almost always fade within the first 15–20 minutes.

your boudoir session, hour by hour

A typical first-timer’s timeline, start to finish.

BEFORE SHOOT DAY | THE PRE-SESSION CONSULTATION

A call or in-person meeting to talk through what’s motivating the session, wardrobe options, any areas you feel more or less confident about, and shoot-day logistics, so nothing is left to guesswork.

1.5–2 HOURS PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP

Sitting in the chair while someone else focuses on you is often when nerves start to settle. Professional hair and makeup is included in every collection. It gives us time to connect and you don’t have to stress about showing up camera ready.

ON ARRIVAL | WARDROBE AND STYLING

You’re never expected to arrive knowing exactly what to wear. Most clients bring a few meaningful personal pieces and fill in the rest from the studio wardrobe. Fit matters more than size. Well-fitted pieces photograph better, regardless of size. >> WARDROBE GUIDE

1-3 HOURS SHOOT

Closely directed, start to finish, where to put your hands, how to shift your weight, when to breathe out and relax your shoulders. You won’t be expected to know how to pose; that’s my job as a photographer.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER | IN-PESON IMAGE SELECTION

We will walk you through your images the same day, rather than a separate online gallery weeks later — guided selection instead of overanalyzing alone at 11pm.

2 WEEKS | RETOUCHING AND DELIVERY

Your selected images go through professional skin, lighting, color, and background retouching.I deliver digital images within 2 weeks and products within 6-8 weeks.

frequently asked questions

Answers to what first-time clients ask most.
Do I need to be a certain size or fitness level for boudoir?

No. Professional boudoir photography is designed for every body type, age (18+), and experience level. Posing and lighting techniques exist specifically to flatter every figure. I learned all the posing and lighting tricks, so you can relax and just enjoy your boudoir session.

It’s common, and normal. Many clients tear up at some point — often from nerves easing into confidence, sometimes from the emotional weight of what the session represents. I will slow down, check in, and never rush a moment like that.

Yes, you’re welcome to bring a friend along for comfort. I understand how hard it can feel to trust someone new with such an intimate session. That said, I don’t typically recommend it — I like to keep the shooting space private, since that privacy is part of what makes the experience feel safe and meaningful. Sessions tend to feel more powerful when you do them alone, without anyone else’s reactions in the room. But it’s entirely your call, and I’m happy either way.
Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your session, and avoid trying new skincare products or treatments within 48 hours of shoot day.

Most clients book bridal boudoir 8–10 weeks before the wedding, leaving enough time for retouching and, if it’s a gift, for album or print production.

I keep client images strictly confidential and never share them publicly without explicit written consent.
