What is boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography is an intimate, empowering portrait experience that celebrates your beauty, confidence, and femininity. Sessions take place in a private, comfortable studio setting, from soft and romantic to bold and editorial. It is about capturing you at your most confident and creating beautiful artwork you will treasure forever. Most importantly, it is about how the experience makes you feel, seen, celebrated, and completely in your power.

Do I need to know how to pose?

Not at all, that is exactly what we are here for. Expert posing and coaching is a core part of every session. Our photographer guides you into every pose, angle, and expression to highlight your best features. You never have to wonder what to do with your hands, your eyes, or your body. Most of our clients arrive nervous and leave feeling like they were born to be photographed.

What should I wear to a boudoir session?

You do not need to bring anything if you do not want to. Our studio wardrobe includes 200+ pieces, lingerie, bodysuits, elegant robes, sheer fabrics, accessories, and more, in a wide range of sizes and styles. During your consultation we will talk through the looks that best match your vision, your body, and the style you want to achieve. You are also welcome to bring your own favorite pieces.

Are my boudoir photos kept private?

Yes, absolutely! We never share your images publicly without your explicit written permission. Your photos are entirely yours. If you are ever willing to share them for portfolio or marketing purposes, we will always ask for your specific consent first. Your privacy and comfort are our top priority.

Where is the boudoir studio in San Diego?

Our studio is located at 2195 Faraday Ave #A, Carlsbad, CA 92008, in North San Diego County, just off the 5 freeway. We are 10 minutes from Encinitas, 15 minutes from Oceanside, 20 minutes from Del Mar, and 25–35 minutes from La Jolla and downtown San Diego. Free parking is available at the studio.

How much does boudoir photography cost in San Diego?

Boudoir photography in San Diego typically costs $600-$4,000 depending on the studio and what’s included. Most established studios charge a session fee of $590-$895 plus a collections investment starting around $1,200-$1,500 for final retouched images.

Does the price include hair and makeup?

At luxury studios, yes. Professional hair and makeup is included. At budget or mid-range photographers, it’s often a separate cost, typically $250-$500.

Are there hidden costs I should ask about?

Yes. Common add-ons to ask about upfront are à la carte images beyond your package, fine art albums, wall art and canvas prints, and rush editing fees. Ask any studio for their full price list before booking, not just the starting session fee.

How far in advance should I book?

Most luxury San Diego boudoir studios book 4-8 weeks in advance. Popular dates, including before Valentine’s Day or October through December for holiday gifting, fill 2-3 months out. It’s always worth to check in for last minute openings. We always try to make it work.

How soon before a wedding should I schedule bridal boudoir?

Most clients book bridal boudoir 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding, which allows enough time for retouching and, if it’s a gift, for album or print production to arrive. Most of our printed products are made in Italy and take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive. Express delivery is available for an extra fee.

What happens if I need to reschedule?

You can reschedule at no extra cost as long as it’s more than 24 hours before your session, one time. Life happens: if you get sick or an emergency comes up, we understand. If you need to reschedule more than once, a $300 rescheduling fee applies. Keep in mind that we’re often fully booked, so rescheduling sometimes means waiting a couple of weeks for your new session date. We’ll always try to get you back on the schedule as quickly as we can.

Do I need to be a certain size or fitness level for boudoir?

No. Professional boudoir photography is designed for every body type, age (18+), and experience level. Posing and lighting techniques exist specifically to flatter every figure. Everyone is welcome in my Carlsbad, CA studio. It’s a judgment free zone!

What if I feel nervous or emotional during the shoot?

It’s common, and normal. Many or my clients tear up at some point, often from nerves easing into confidence. I will slow down, check in, and never rushes a moment like that.

How long does a boudoir session take?

Plan on 3-5 hours total: 1.5-2 hours for professional hair and makeup, followed by 1-2 hours of shooting with multiple outfit changes, plus time afterward for in-person image selection.

Is boudoir photography only for engaged or married women?

No. While bridal boudoir is a common reason to book, most clients are celebrating a personal milestone: a birthday, a body-love journey, a post-partum season, or simply a gift to themselves.

What's the difference between boudoir and fine art nude photography?

Boudoir typically involves lingerie, wardrobe styling, and a bedroom or studio setting focused on sensual portraiture. Fine art nude leans further into artistic, often unclothed composition centered on form, light, and shadow rather than styling.

Can I do a boudoir session with my partner?

Yes, we offer couples boudoir sessions, though we don’t shoot erotica. Couples sessions follow a similar structure to individual sessions, but are styled and posed for two people.

What should I bring to my session?

Most luxury studios provide wardrobe through an in-house collection. Clients are welcome to bring meaningful personal pieces, like a partner’s shirt, favorite lingerie, or sentimental jewelry, but nothing is required in advance.

How many final images do I get?

This depends on your package. Our entry-level collection includes 8 retouched images, our mid-tier package includes 25, and our luxury collection comes with 40 beautifully edited images. Additional images are always available for purchase.

Can I bring a friend for support?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring a friend along for comfort. I understand how hard it can feel to trust someone new with such an intimate session. That said, I don’t typically recommend it — I like to keep the shooting space private, since that privacy is part of what makes the experience feel safe and meaningful. Sessions tend to feel more powerful when you do them alone, without anyone else’s reactions in the room. But it’s entirely your call, and I’m happy either way.

Are my images kept private?

I keep client images strictly confidential and never share them publicly without explicit written consent.

What areas of San Diego does a Carlsbad studio typically serve?

My studio is based in Carlsbad and commonly serves all of North San Diego County, including Encinitas, Del Mar, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista, and La Jolla, as well as greater San Diego.
